Monday, October 31, 2022By: Tom Kleven Once again this year, the Olentangy Rotary Club will be conducting a coat drive to benefit the People In Need (PIN) Holiday Clearing House (HCH) on December 11, 2022. In an effort to better serve their clients' PIN has provided a link (see below) that shows the most needed sizes of coats. If you are able to donate any of those items please "sign up" for those sizes which will keep the list current.
You can bring donated coats to our November 10th or December 1st Rotary meeting and I'll deliver them to PIN. If neither of those dates works for you, please let me know and I'll make arrangements to pick up donated items.
If you have already purchased coats in sizes not listed, we will gladly accept your donations and they will be put to good use. An additional area of need is hats/gloves for older kids/teens if you're able to help.
People in Need - Holiday Clearing House Volunteer Opportunities
Monday, October 31, 2022By: Tom Kleven For the past several years, the Olentangy Rotary Club members have volunteered at the People In Need Holiday Clearing House. There is an opportunity to assist as escorts for the client's families as they shop for gifts, clothing, and groceries. The event this year will be held at Delaware County Fairgrounds on Sunday December 11th from 9 AM to 5 PM.
There are also volunteer opportunities the week prior to the Clearing House. With several days of preparation in a variety of areas, there are lots of shifts available.
Friday, July 15, 2022By: Rich Irelan During our last morning meeting, we completed a service project for the "Supplies for Scholars" program in partnership with People in Need of Delaware County and United Way of Delaware County. We packaged 480 headphones that our club donated to the students. The total cost was over $4,000. $2,000 was direct from our club and the other $2,000 was from a matching grant from District 6690.
Thanks to all the members at the meeting and the guest (Jeff Hohman) for volunteering their time!
Lastly, a very special thanks to Tom Kleven for coordinating this project and making it a success over the years! Share
Tuesday, May 10, 2022By: Tom Kleven I wanted to recap this year's scholarship program for the club.
This is our first year participating in the scholarship program benefitting students at the Delaware Area Career Center (DACC) that the Sunbury Galena and the Delaware Rotary Clubs have administered for several years. Our Olentangy Club contributed $2,000 and PDG Mike & Kim Brown also contributed $1,000 to the program. There was a total of just over $20,000 to be awarded from the three clubs, along with individual and corporate donations.
Over 40 students applied and were interviewed, via Zoom, by a panel of Rotarians from the three participating clubs. These students represented various areas such as welding, carpentry, dental assisting, and digital design. Twenty scholarships were awarded ranging in value from $750 to $1500. Awards addressed a variety of needs such as tuition, carpentry tools, and welding equipment.
I was very impressed by the quality of the student applicants. This was a record year for the program in terms of the number of applicants and the amount of money awarded. Programs at the Delaware Area Career Center are increasing in size and scope due to demand. I'm very pleased with the program and I hope we'll participate again next year and that we can increase participation by our members.
Also, Rich Irelan and Mike Miller attened the Presentation Ceremony at the Delaware Rotarry Meeting on Monday. What a great group of kids
